Why does experience matter when photographing dogs? In my opinion, it is the most crucial aspect of dog photography. Experience matters because it ensures that we can handle your pets safely and effectively, I have dedicated time to researching dog behavior and continue to deepen my understanding through ongoing study and observation. Additionally, I have spent over 15 years honing my photography skills, which I have combined with my knowledge of dog behavior.
Why is this important, even if your pet is trained? The reality is that most pets, unless specifically trained for commercial shoots, are not accustomed to the environment of a photoshoot. This unfamiliar setting can lead to distractions and various behaviors that need to be managed. Understanding a dog's body language and being able to read the energy of both the dog and the humans involved are essential skills. Moreover, knowing how to operate my camera proficiently in any lighting condition and at any moment is vital.
Having an assistant is also crucial to the success of a dog photoshoot. Assistants help manage the dogs and ensure that the environment remains calm and positive. This allows me to focus on capturing the perfect shots while keeping my clients at ease. Whether I have one assistant or several, their presence is indispensable for maintaining a peaceful and happy atmosphere during the photoshoot.
